What’s your blog all about?
We moved to New Zealand last year – My Villa Life is a record of our new life in an Auckland villa, kids, travel, books, food, design and the things I like.
Why did you start blogging?
The move was our fourth in about as many years and I struggled to settle. I started to read blogs from all over the world and found an incredible array of talented designers, artists, photographers and writers as well as a lot of very ordinary people like me. I wanted to join the party.
What is your favourite part about blogging?
I love writing and thinking about what I might write about tomorrow or next week. I also love that sometimes I don’t quite know what tomorrow’s post will be. I have been amazed at how encouraging and interested other people are about the blog. Bloggers are a very nice bunch! It’s been great too to slowly tell friends about it. I was a little hesitant at first but I live a long distance from a lot of old friends and it is a great way to see what we are up to. The grandparents follow it closely!
How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
I think blogging is the hobby I’ve never really had and I find it easy to fit in… of course once I have a thousand followers and hundreds of emails to reply to… ah yes, unlikely so I think I’ll cope!
Any advice to new/other bloggers?
Just start one. It’s incredibly easy, more satisfying than a Facebook habit and you’ll learn a bit about the net along the way. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look as good as you’d like it to – I was going to wait until a more professional header was ready but I’m glad I didn’t. I’m still waiting for my very talented but busy brother to come through with the final product!
Think about how much you want people to know about you. I don’t use my surname or name the kids or show their faces. That might change one day but I feel that I can write more freely with some degree of anonymity.
Top 3 favourite posts from your blog?
My New Year’s resolutions in April. Nothing like declaring your resolutions to keep you working at them.
My iPhone dilemma. Within an hour of posting three friends had sent me an email or video on their iPhones just because they could.
A day trip to Piha because I am just so darned proud of the photos. Tragic but true.
