The Bachelor NZ Episode 2 – The Schoolyard Edition

I was wondering if you would like to accept this rose…..hey sorry am I able to steal you? hahaha awkward, cue fake smiles all around.   When the girls kept interrupting he looked so terrified, I actually felt so bad for him.  This is what he looked like he was feeling on the inside.   Roll on elimination time. when he can get rid of all the stage 10 clinger. I have a solution for you Zac We need to get you a copper coated bell so each girl gets a set time with you and when the bell rings that means buzz off – next girl. My thoughts Why do they care so much? They know nothing of him, I just don’t see why they get themselves so wound up about him.   Sitting there all sour faced and teary – just pour yourself another wine hun and have a great time.  If I were The Bachelor I’d go for the incognito girls, who just want to enjoy the experience, choosing a stage 10 clinger will not lead to love. Enter Mariana..   Roses in order… Claudia Jessica – called it (shes The Edges wild card) Molly Hannah Rosie – yessssss ahh She will bring the drama Lily Didn’t hear what he name Belle Nina Mariana – YAS QUEEN I did a quick google of her and she is soo amazing, way to good for this show 🙂 Cailtlyn Tiffany Alice Sophie Taylar – YAAAAAAAAAS  Drama locked in. 3 Girls eliminated and I laughed my ass off because Charlotte thought she had him hook line and sinker, no one likes an arrogant bachelorette – just saying.  It’s not over till you make it to the end of the season.   I can’t wait to see what goes down as the Season progresses. Let me know what you thought of tonight’s escapades in the comments Did it remind you of high school? (see my thoughts on Episode 1 here) Save Save Save Save Save

Just An Average Mum

We all know I’m not a big fan of housework. But I do try to keep on top of it for my family’s sake if not for my own sanity. But on the days when I am behind in housework, it’s important to remind myself that I am just an average Mum and I’m doing …

Happy Anniversary

Today I’ve been married to Mark for 18 years. It’s not the marriage I like to celebrate but the togetherness we have had in those 18 years. It’s the growth we have done and continue to do as a couple. Marriage is merely a relationship wh… Continue reading

Decluttering 101

Mess has long been my nemesis. Look closely, it’s even in the word – ne-MESS-is. I fight a losing battle with mess, and I’ve come up with a theory. Why can’t I conquer the mess? I have too much stuff. There are too many toys and not enough places to put them. Too much dirty […]

February 2017 Little Things

February was the month that my sister, Colleen, and I started playing a weekly tennis match – and it’s been so great to get back into playing tennis again. Sadly I don’t have a photo of us actually playing or even after playing, but that might just be a good thing, because there is A LOT of sweat involved and my face looks dangerously red after our matches! Hah!

February was also the month we spent a weekend with friends in Algies Bay and out on the water up north (see more about that weekend here).

I mentioned back then that Grant had bought a jet ski and we’ve really been enjoying some great time out on the water on that fun thing! One weekend we went out to Motuihe island to visit friends on our boat (it was one of our boat partner’s turns for a weekend on the boat) and had some lunch with them before jetting off again. It’s so beautiful to be out on the water, out in nature, and as we jet past some of the deserted islands in the gulf, I have to pinch myself at how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world.

Our brother-in-law had a birthday in February and we went along to celebrate with him (Happy Birthday, Sam!):

And on Valentine’s Day we went to see Simple Minds and the B52s in the city, with some friends. What a blast from the past! Going to these ‘oldies’ shows is such fun – because oldies sure can (still) party like it’s 1999. ;) And those B52s were AMAZING, you guys. I SO wish that I’d seen them in their heyday! The memories their music envokes – wow! All in all, a great way to spend our Valentine’s night.

Our niece and cousin, Evie, celebrated her 2nd birthday in February too. It’s been such a treat getting to watch her grow up over the last 2 years. She is the cutest! I feel very fortunate to have that clever little girl as my niece!

And we had some visitors in February too. The Opie girls (great South African friends of ours who now live in Melbourne) came to stay with us for a week towards the end of February, just before the two of them and Jess started Uni. (It’s been a great year for visitors so far – first Isabella and then the Opie girls.) The three girls had a great time together – seeing the sights, going to some beautiful beaches and generally catching up and spending time together. Jess, Lauren and Samantha have been having holidays with each other for a good few years now which is so special (one year Jess visits them in Melbourne and the next they come to Auckland). To maintain their friendship from their Cape Town days is something that they treasure and will continue to treasure into the future. I guess having the immigration experience in common further binds them and cements their friendships. Immigrating can often mean the end of good, old friendships, but despite the fact that these girls live in different countries, they have made the effort to keep in contact and see each other regularly and I know it means a lot to Jessica to have these old friendships which involve so much history and so many memories. It certainly means a lot to me.

Sadly, Sarah had school camp during the week that the girls were here, so she only got to see them for a couple of days before she went off on her Hillary Leadership Experience. We sure did miss her when she was away for that week!

And that was February.

Over and out. x

Things People Never Tell You About Parenthood

Things People Never Tell You About Parenthood Well actually the title is a bit misleading, because by now you’ve probably read a million of these. Celebrate You!

Recently it was my birthday! Beautiful gifts and lovely opportunities for coffee dates and lunches out to, well, celebrate me! Yes the celebrations may well have extended out beyond the day.  It’s not often that we get a day, well obviously apart from our once a year birthday to celebrate ourselves! But when it is […] Continue reading

First impressions..The Bachelor NZ S3. I can’t quit you.

The Bachelor NZ S3. I can't quit you.The time is nigh, ladies hold on to your wines (ummm ok)  a new season of The Bachelor NZ is upon us. I am so ready for this, after the shit show that was Jordan last year, he was not very likeable – I don’t even think  he really liked himself. First of all I just want to rage at TV3 for a second.. it was a lame first episode you should have made it a double ep but you want to stretch it out and create buzz  – not okay guys.  AND I REALLY LIKE MIKE PURU.  Dom Bowden is so much overkill TV3, we have more hosts in NZ then him surely. Anyhow.. Welcome Zac, he’s quite a dish –  I approve of the objectification of his perfect body – that side profile is a work of art (not meaning to be punny – ART THE BACHELOR ART GEDDIT?). He seems quite sweet and maybe a little shy, I hope the ladies are kind to him. The emotional music has me rolling my eyes so hard I think they might pop out of my head… My Pick. Don’t judge me for calling it so early in the game but I have a nack for this reality TV bullshit, I knew Art would pick Matilda and I think Viarne will win it… It was love at first sight as she started stripping down to her togs on camera and dove into the waters of Mount Maunganui… The funniest part for me. Was when 25-year-old Bel from Christchurch said she loved to bake, for some reason I didn’t imagine her dressed to the nines making a cake, my mental picture was her sitting on the couch in her trackies smoking a bong? I really am mental A highlight 23-year-old Edge fan fave Jess. The English beauty carried up a small china cup of tea, “a little novelty” to help stand out from the crowd. Novelty, novel tea.  GEDDIT?    The Edge has an amazing record for setting people up so I do think she will be around for the long haul. Oh Taylar Taylar – she is both infuriating and amazing.  As those girls discussed the merits of interrupting I didn’t know whether to loathe her or I high-five her, I respect a girl who stands up for herself, but honey its a dating show, it’s a bit early to be acting needy and all scatty. Oh I need my time. Oh I am interrupting. Love you gurl. Stay tuned for more of my opinions on The Bachelor NZ. Let me know what you thought of the first episode in the comments. A Walk In The Woods And Then Yatra.

I have a 13 year old, she is a very typical 13 year old and we always love each other. That is all I will say. This weekend she was grounded for doing the things 13 year old people do. Being grounded means a family walk with no technology. In the past couple of months […] Continue reading

Outdoor fun in the sun and on the water in Wellington

Summer arrived late to Wellington, with wind and rain dampening most of January and making planning outdoor activities an tedious job. Thankfully, some stunning days arrived in February, rolling into March. Early autumn has been beautiful. Sophie and Alice, our two home educated daughters love being outdoors and active, so they spent the early weeks […] Continue reading
