Wholemeal Walnut & Chocolate Chip Cookies

These delicious cookies were a bit of an experiment to get more walnuts into my kids.  Success! Good omega oils for all! They are very low in sugar, just half a cup, but the chocolate chips add a little sweetness too. If you like a sweeter cookie (naughty, naughty you), add 1 cup of sugar […] Continue reading

How to father a teen

Being a dad of primary school-aged children is easy, really – most little boys and girls think of their dad as their hero and want to have a close relationship with him. A willingness to spend time with your kids, a sense of fun, and a positive, caring attitude will go a long way with […]

It’s all in the editing – My Rundown of EP 5 of The Bachelor NZ

First Date  When reading the card someone who’s name I could not catch, states that she wants to get some very soon 😆 Claudia is ready to tango,  she pulls up in a Suzuki Swift , I can practically guarantee that she did not drive herself there in that car. They are having a tango lesson at a private estate Meanwhile… more mean girls by the pools – Claudia is boring with enormous tits – I feel like they had one great big bitch fest about all the girls and the producers have edited it to look like it was on separate days. OMG She got the first kiss!! and then she got a rose!! Cue bitchy comments from everyone, except Viarni who is really kind about how uncomfortable they feel after the one on one dates.   Group Date Bel  Sophie, Molly, Lucia, Rosie, Katey, Ali, Nina Off to Sky Citys commercial kitchen they go to create Tim Tam inspired desserts.  Katey and Lucia win the prize of a date. Back by the pool Claudia confesses about the first kiss… then she is called a frog Katey and Lucias date Zac was talking about how his parents met by a chance encounter and they were discussing that if his parents didn’t meet they wouldn’t be there and then Katey said oh I would be here just not with you AWKWARD Zac pulls Claudia aside before the Rose Ceremony, dun dun dunnnn.  GAME OVER.  According to Katey.   He was really pulling her aside to make sure she hadn’t been bragging about it, she should have just denied the kiss in my opinion.   WHY DID NINA COMPARE HERSELF TO AN ONION.. WHY IS SHE SO DESPERATE – well sorry not sorry but she is coming across that way. The Rose Ceremony Ali Hannah Viarni Bel Lily Jess Rosie Nina Sophie Lucia Molly   Sent home Katey.. Lucia cares that Katey is leaving more than Katey seems to, it was all very dramatic really 🙁   Save Save Save Save Save Save

What’s on these School Holidays

Easter’s over.  Chocolate egg wrappers litter the floor and you wander the house trying to piece together the last few days like you’re in your own PG chocolate version of The Hangover. Your kids are (literally) climbing the walls and demand marshmallow eggs for breakfast.  No! You say as you rise sharply from your sofa in…

Creamy Tomato & Basil Sauce

This is one of my most rewarding recipes to make.  The tomato sauce is rich, full of flavour, and so incredibly healthy.  Processed store brought pasta sauces can be filled with harmful additives, including flavour enhancers (msg).   This sauce is high in lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent damage from sun […] Continue reading

Lego Batman Movie Review – and behind the scenes fun.

Lego Batman Movie Review Batman is so good at defeating evil, that the townspeople of Gotham don’t even worry when Joker and his gang of super villains attempt to blow up the city. The Joker believes that he and Batman need each other. Batman rebuffs this notion much to the Joker’s disappointment. The new police commissioner, Barbara Gordon also believes that Batman and the police need each other and should be working together. Even Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler, tries to convince Batman that he’d be better off opening up to others – starting with the orphan boy he inadvertently adopted (Dick Grayson, who becomes Robin). But Batman works alone. The Joker comes up with his greatest plan to get back at Batman and rule Gotham City. Batman may be forced to accept that working as a team with Commissioner Gordon, Robin, and Alfred is the best way to defeat him. The Lego Batman Movie is a non-stop bombardment of inside jokes, nods, winks and tributes. There are several references to past Batman movies, and even to the TV series and its use of onomatopoeia in colorful comic balloons (i.e. “Bam!” “Pow!”). Both kids and adults will love this movie.  There are some jokes that will go way over the heads of children, but the movie is truly entertaining for all ages.  My five-year-old son laughed throughout the movie.  There were so many parts he kept talking about after the movie, and he especially liked when Robin made an adjustment to his super hero costume. I look forward to seeing this movie again to catch all the jokes I know I missed (I’ll probably need a few more viewings to accomplish this). The LEGO Batman Movie had big shoes to fill.  It does so well and truly, and the result is a laugh-a-second classic that the whole family will enjoy.       I made a behind the scenes vlog type video of our morning at the Lego Movie Media Preview.   Here is The Lego Batman Movie Trailer
