What’s your blog all about?
My blog space is kind of a ‘bright spot’ space. Bright spots from my languid, house-wifey days… For example; crafty ventures, mean op shop scores and excessive collections of doo-dads, sweet little moments shared with my wee lassie, along with the occasional musing about the meaning of life and a variety of other – possibly a tad more mundane topics.
Why did you start blogging?
In a previous life I was an eternal student – a BA in English Lit & Film with English Honours, and (most of) a Grad Dip in Primary Teaching (to be completed later this year). Being rather in the habit of writing, and having recently started the new, lifelong career entitled ‘parenting’, blogging seemed the perfect vehicle by which vent some of my thoughts and/or creative urges. I started with the intention of simply detailing creative projects I was working on and perhaps describing the odd foray into baking or gardening – but it’s really taken on a life of it’s own, I’m not sure that I could tell you what it’s about any more.
What is your favourite part about blogging?
Blogging constantly reminds me to appreciate some small aspect of my life. Whether it be a newly acquired treasure, a creative success, or just an insignificant but nonetheless cherished moment mother-daughter bliss that occurs in our day. I’ve also ‘met’ some of the loveliest, sweetest, most encouraging ladies through blogging.
How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
Only having one cherub certainly helps! It also helps that she’s not particularly mobile yet, and requires more day-sleeps than I do. At present I find that I can easily squeeze a little time into my daily routine for a little bit of blogging – usually while I’m enjoying my morning coffee.
Any advice to new/other bloggers?
I’m still learning, but there are a few things I’ve figured out since I’ve started blogging. Firstly – it’s pretty crucial to take the time to put pretty photos up. It draws readers in, and for those of us (including myself) that sometimes only have a moment to skim through posts before a small child (or similar) requires our attention, photos offer instant reader gratification. Secondly, proof-read! I’m guilty of forgetting to do this from time to time and I always feel silly when I’m caught out (oh but some of my grammatical errors are unavoidable unfortunately – for instance – I’m still unclear about the difference between colon and semicolon, yet feel the temptation to use one or both on a frequent basis… *shrug*). If you are anything like me, you will be quick to notice grammatical or punctuation errors on other pages, so I recommend a quick read through before you post.
