What’s your blog all about?
I was a journalist for Radio New Zealand in Tauranga, then 15 years in London as journalist for a number of newspapers including The Times, London Evening Standard and The Mail On Sunday. Have been stay-at-home Mum for 10 years. Now have four kids and am living in Oakland, California. My friend Lisa calls my blog “Funny Ado About Nothing”. It firstly tells what I did on the weekend and fans out from there, focusing each time on either my four kids, fashion or food ….and always trying to have a good time.
What is your favourite part about blogging?
When one of the Mums at school comes up to me and says: “Jody, I laughed so hard about all those hours and days you spent tanning – I was exactly the same at High School!”
How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
It’s really hard as now I’ve started I find myself writing all the time and feel like I should be more “present” (sorry I hate that expression) But I write in the kitchen so I’m always around to hand out snacks, help with homework and break up scraps. My husband has been amazing, he helps me so much.
Any advice to new/other bloggers?
I’m pretty new myself and I have to keep telling myself: There is room for everyone. It’s really tough because after visiting other blogs I think: Oh they have much better photos, better writing, more interesting house, better ideas…But there is space for all our voices. And – “Be yourself, everyone else is taken” That’s Oscar Wilde, but I love it!
