What’s your blog all about?

I’m a happily married stay at home mum and mad crafter as well as a total animal nut. I also have a keen interest in forensics and police work as well as fitness so to say my tastes and interests are wide ranging is probably an understatement! I also battle the terrible twosome of mental illness, anxiety and depression.
Paws Purls was my first blog, I started that to share what I was doing craftwise. While this remains a primarily craft based blog, it has also expanded to talk about my family, battling mental illness, getting fit and working on the Day Zero Project. I wanted to share a bit more about me and real life and let readers know what I’m really like, almost like putting a face to the name. As well as that, it’s often been a way of getting stuff out of my system, particularly if I’ve been having a bad time with my mental illness.

Since I started volunteering and fostering through the Waikato SPCA, I found I was both writing and wanting to write more about that work. I decided  that rather than have it take over the craft blog, I would split it off and so created Pawsome! and quite honestly I think it deserved a blog of it’s own anyway. I also felt I might reach a different audience by starting this new blog, shockingly not everyone is craft obsessed (*gasp*) so I hope this way will connect with more people who might otherwise ignore a craft blog.

Why did you start blogging?
Mainly to share what I was doing. Also being an anxiety suffer, until recently the internet was my main way of connecting with people, something I felt I couldn’t do in a real life forum.

What is your favourite part about blogging?
Connecting with new people. I love receiving comments etc on my blog but I must admit, it’s extra special when it comes from someone I don’t know. Making new connection and touching someone with something I’ve written is pretty awesome.

How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
No idea. If I ever figure it out I’ll let you know! I do sometimes go for longer than I mean to without blogging, I hope quality makes up for quantity!

Any advice to new/other bloggers?
Be yourself, be real. Use spell check and punctuation! Also don’t give up, sometimes you do feel like you’re talking to yourself and maybe you are at times. Remember that blogging is just as much for you as for other people. Besides, I’m constantly surprised when someone mentions something of mine that they read, especially when I had no idea they even follow me! You never know who is reading or who you’re connecting with. Don’t take follower numbers as gospel.
