No. of Kids: Cleo – 23 Months

What’s your blog all about?
I am a part-time designer in the children’s gift and clothing industry, but I have a background in both hand-drawn and computer animation. My blog reflects all these interests focusing on illustration, graphic design, pattern, fabric, and kids’ fashion that has some kind of pattern or graphics within it.

Why did you start blogging?
When I go back to work full time, I would like to remain working from home, either launching my own label, or selling surface pattern designs. My blog is a way of keeping up to date with what is happening in the industry in preparation for this. I also seem to function best when I have a personal project outside of my job. I like to be learning – the technical side of setting up Kitty of a Picture has been a huge learning curve, and I hope that over the course of the coming year my writing/editing/layout skills will improve, It is hard to find time for this type of project now that I have a toddler and a part time job, but it makes me happy so I try to juggle it all.

What is your favourite part about blogging?
There is so much! I really love it, but it would have to be the people I am interacting with (that is a surprise – I didn’t expect to form friendships through blogging) and also the satisfaction that comes when I receive positive feedback from designers I’ve featured.

How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
I try to live by the rule family first, job second, blogging third, and because I have such a tolerant and understanding partner, the housework tends to come last! It becomes a priority only when we have guests, LOL! I really underestimated the time investment I would need to make to maintain a blog, and if I had known I never would have taken it on, but I’m hooked now! I doubt I’ll lie on my deathbed wishing I’d done more housework!

Any advice to new/other bloggers?
Marry a web designer! Once a day I wish I knew HTML and CSS. The basic knowledge I have is just enough to know there is a way to do what I want to do, but not enough to do it ;)
