No. of Kids: Jed Isaac – age three and a half – who is hoping and hoping for a sibling…
Current City: Piha, Waitakere

What’s your blog all about?
These are the chronicles of our adventures, how i grow. Growing into being mama. Growing my art in it’s many guises. Living life as juicy as i know how. Stumbling sometimes, soaring at other times. Letting my son remind me that magic is present in every moment. This is me, crafting our world anew. Stitch by stitch, seed by seed, word by word, and always, always, from the heart. Thanks for journeying with me.

I love to make most of our clothes and household items out of vintage and upcycled fabrics. (see my blog profile for more about me, it’s been a wild life!) So i can be the Mama i want to be i am trying to work from home. I write articles and through encouragement from readers i have started selling my baby and childrens clothes (plus a few mama accessories) from my kitchen table, markets  and through online venues like tradeMe and Etsy so there are links to those sites on the GrowMama blog also.

Why did you start blogging?
I was a sleep deprived writer who was desperate for a deadline, so i self imposed them.1)I needed that jolt to get me writing again2)i also wanted a way to stay in touch with friends and folks i am connected to through my international work (i was 16 years away from NZ) and 3) i wanted a way to show solidarity and be connected to other mama’s starting out on their mama path

What is your favourite part about blogging?
I like feeling part of a larger community, to inspire and be inspired…and i have made friends i haven’t actually met yet. That;s kinda cool…a modern day grown up version of penpal’s  i guess.

How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
Ah. Mighty good question that one. Blogging is easy for me, it’s as much a part of my life as housework is now. I do want to prioritise more regular posting though. Maybe, shudder, structure in regular days (ones that i can’t shirk and sew, plead fatigue or sneak off to the beach instead, ahem).

Any advice to new/other bloggers?
Do what your heart says. Be yourself. Don’t be afraid to share some of the messy life stuff. Being real makes you and your work accessible. That integrity shines through. Oh, and don’t let the lack of comments bother you…i think it’s a NZ thing, the reluctance to comment…folks will contact me via email mostly.

Top 3 favourite posts from your blog?
Letting the day take me
Buddhism for mothers
Our kind of school
Thanks for the incentive to wander down memory lane! Ask me the same question tomorrow and it might be a different three. There’s a few hundred posts to choose from now…eek! How did that happen?!

Top 3 favourite blogs?
Sewmamasew
Angry chicken
Enchantedchameleon
I wasn’t a blog follower before i started GrowMama.blogspot.com but as i posted more, folks sent me links and i realised i was part of a huge crafty mama resurgence…there’s a whole bunch of us doing our thing out there. Who knew?!
