Two Little Dicky Birds
twolittledickybirdsblog.com

No. of Kids: 2 boys, Noah (3) and Sam (1)
Current City: Western Australia

What’s your blog all about?
I’m a stay at home Mum to two gorgeous boys, living in regional Western Australia. After university, my husband and I moved over here from Dunedin to work in Mining (we’re both Geologists) and we ended up staying. We’ve been here nearly 7 years now, and counting. Two Little Dicky birds is really a collection of bits and pieces that I love: beautiful homes, inspiring people and gorgeous things. I dabble in photography, so I share some of my own photographs here too.

Why did you start blogging?
I first started Two Little Dicky Birds when I was hunting around for inspiration for our new home. I kept stumbling across all these great blogs that were full of inspiring ideas and I thought it might be a nice way to document our home renovation and share ideas with people.

What is your favourite part about blogging?
Meeting such great people! There are some really wonderful people online and I feel really lucky to have met them. Living so far from home can be really isolating and it’s a great way to connect with people who you have things in common with. I have a much more diverse group of friends now because of it.

How do you manage juggling family life with blogging?
Sometimes it’s hard, I’m so time-poor, and I’m terribly disorganised! Generally, I write my posts at night after the kids have gone to bed, scheduling posts for the next day. During the afternoon when the boys are napping, I process all my photos and write if I get enough time (and there’s no washing to hang out!). Sometimes I get a few extra moments in the weekend when my husband is home, but with two little ones, it is hard to blog without being interrupted, even in another room. I’ve tried multitasking it – reading/writing and entertaining kids at the same time, but it’s like talking on the phone, as soon as your attention is diverted, they’re tugging on your pants leg and wanting a drink/snack/cuddle/etc., so I quickly gave up on that one. I think it’s important to try and be present, it’s easy to get carried away with blogging, sometimes you just have to say “enough” and step away. It’s important to still have a life.

Any advice to new/other bloggers?
Just enjoy it, it can be a lot of fun! And make it your own. There are a lot of people out there who think a blog should be this, that, or the other, but just make it what you want. It’s your time and energy that will be going into it, so make it somewhere you enjoy being. Whether you’re sharing your day to day life, your family, your craft or work or hobby, just let your own self shine through. I think people really respond to that.

Top 3 favourite posts from your blog?
I’ve recently run a series called Six Weeks of Spring Colour, and this Nod to Winter was one post that my readers seemed to enjoy.
Bloggers Without Make-up – this was so much fun to be a part of, I’m really looking forward to next year.
Blogs that Inspire: The Home in Paradise – a recent post I wrote about Clara’s beautiful blog.

Top 3 favourite blogs?
Under the Sycamore – Ashley’s blog is my absolute favourite, I love the way she captures her world, and she has such a great sense of humour.
Pretty Light – Elena’s blog is exquisite, I am so inspired every time I visit.
Kate Paneros – Adelaide-based photographer Kate is currently traveling Asia and taking some amazing photographs. I’m really enjoying following along.
